CRAIG SYMONS - MANAGING DIRECTOR

Hi my name is Craig I was born in Wellington, but raised in Palmerston North.  I returned to Wellington over 25 years ago to play softball.  I have lived in the Whitby/Aotea suburbs for a number of years.  I have three girls and I am very family orientated.  I enjoy watching the girls with their sporting endeavours: Softball, t-ball, swimming, netball and karate.

IMG_7957.jpgI have a strong passion for sport, especially rugby and softball.  I was the Captain of the NZ Under 17 Rugby Team and represented Manawatu in age grade rugby in my younger years.  Unfortunately I gave rugby away to concentrate on softball.  I have represented New Zealand playing softball and was fortunate enough to play for the 1996 World Champion Black Sox. I have also represented Hutt Valley for about twenty years.  My local team was Cardinals in the Hutt.  For the Cardinals team I played, coached and was even on the committee for twenty years.  In recent years I have Coached the Porirua under 11,13, girls softball teams.  At Pare-plim I have coached, the Under 15 Girls Softball, Under 13 Mixed Softball,  Under 11 Softball, Under 9 and Under 7 t-ball teams.  I have also coached the Western Bays Girls representative teams  Under 11 Girls Softball and Under 9 T-Ball.

WHY ARE WE HERE?

Back in 2013 the Ministry of Business, innovation and employment (previously the department of labour) in conjuction with worksafe NZ updated New Zealand's health and safety regulations introducing the requirement for fall through protection on new buildings. (A regulation that was already in place in a number of countries around the world)

One of our good Aotea Roofing clients suggested that residential safety netting might be a good fit to compliment our roofing business.  As a result Aotea Safety was created, being one of the first safety net installers in the Greater Wellington, Wairarapa, Horowhenua and Manawatu regions.

WHY WORK WITH US?

Craig has over thirty years experience in the building industry and understands the building process.  Mel is organised and methodical and will ensure that your safety netting job is installed on time and removed on time!

Aotea Safety Nets Limited installers are faset trained (fall arrest safety equipment training) to comply with installation standard in accordance with BS8411:2007 Code of Practice.

All of our nets have been purchased new in 2016 and fully tagged an compliant.  We offer competitive pricing that allows you to charge your safety netting service through your local merchant account eg. Carters, Placemakers, ITM, gaining valuable reward points!

We take health and safety seriously  All of our installers are site safe accredited.  We do regular audits of our installers installations.  Our installers have a health and safety app on their smart phones that contain all the relevant health and safety documentation. We take photos of every installation and leave a hand over sheet on site and also a rescue procedure.

We are members of our local community, we support Pareplim softball through coaching and managing of teams, we have supported Adventure Schools duathlon and we support Movember!  (A cause close to Mel's heart having lost her Dad to prostate cancer in 2013)
